  Synopsis

Gabriel ‘Fox’ Morrison is starting a brand new chapter in his life. He spent years drifting after his time in the military and finally felt ready to settle in one spot. This leads him to becoming the head detective of the recently opened Stonewall Investigations in Miami. His first case is one that not only hits close to home, but the result could have huge repercussions for more than just him and his client.

It’s a case so big, he decides to enlist some help.

Jonah Brightly is ending a huge chapter of his life. Him and his girlfriend have zero spark and his professional career is in shambles after an on-work incident leaves him with more than a physical scar. A new job as a private detective would be a lifeline he so badly needed.

He goes in for his interview and meets Fox, the man who changes everything for him.

Both of them are rocked by an unexplainable force, and both are left questioning everything they’ve known in its wake. As they form a bond through working together on the case, they learn there’s much more that brings them together than holds them apart. But can they keep fanning the flames of their newfound passion or will they be consumed by the growing fire?

Miami. The city of vice. City of sex.

It was my city, and it was my vice.

Another vice of mine? Stuffing my dick down some random guy’s throat in the bathroom of Club Trinity. The stalls were cramped, dimly lit. They didn’t have any of the gaps at the bottom, providing some semblance of privacy while also making the stall resemble a church confessional.

Made sense, seeing as how someone was down on their knees. Except no one was doing much confessing tonight.

Music pounded from outside the bathroom, drumming in my veins, mixing with the shots of rum I had just downed.

I needed this. I needed this buzzed-headed, clearly CrossFit-obsessed man down on his knees, lips wrapped around my cock. I needed the lust-filled gaze as he looked up at me, begging for me to come, his hands milking me. It was a simple and euphoric way of getting the stress off my shoulders. Opening up a new investigation agency wasn’t exactly easy, and neither was the case that had fallen on my lap a few weeks ago.

“Mhm, fuckgargs—” The man’s words got slurred as I stuffed my entire size inside his mouth, sliding down his throat. The sensation was enough to push me close, my balls tightening against me. I groaned as my fingers dug into the back of the man’s head. He looked up at me, eyes watering, mouth stuffed with my dick, and I fell right over the edge.

“Give it to me,” he said around my cock.

“Oh shit,” I managed to grunt. I dropped my head back and unloaded, shooting my come straight down the man’s throat. He swallowed it up like it was his last supper.

I did exactly as he asked, gave it all to him.

Quivering, I stepped back, come still dripping off the head of my dick. The man—Axel was his name, I remembered now—got up to his feet and wiped his big lips, smiling. He was sweating through the white-and-blue tank top he wore, the straps looking more like strands of hair with how thin they were, clinging to his big, veiny chest.

  “That was fucking hot, dude.”

“Thanks,” I said, the stall suddenly feeling more and more cramped. I turned and unlatched the door. My body was feeling good, and my mind wasn’t far behind. I wanted to get home and get some rest so I could hit the ground hard tomorrow. I didn’t get what I wanted tonight, which meant I’d be coming back.

“Hey, wait,” Axel said, stopping me before I left the stall. “You want some?”

He pulled out a tiny, clear bag from his incredibly tight jean pocket. Inside the bag I could see the bright green pills I had come searching for.

  Dragon.

“I just bought it,” he said, opening the bag with the care of a jeweler examining a rare gemstone.

Well maybe I was getting what I wanted tonight after all…

  “From who?”

  “Huh?”

“Who did you buy it from?” I put my back against the stall door. Neither of us was getting out until I had my questions answered. This was what I had come to the club looking for, and everyone I had talked to kept their mouths shut or just didn’t know what I was talking about. Apparently, a six-foot-three guy with a short haircut and a built frame immediately got people thinking of undercover police.

I mean, they weren’t that far off.

“I have my hookup. This is the pure shit, too. The brand-new stuff, dude. Everyone’s going crazy for it. My dealer said I can’t get this anywhere, like anywhere. It’s like a Club Trinity exclusive, shit.” He opened the bag and dug a finger in, but I grabbed it before he pulled the pill out.

“Hey, what the fuck!” He tried to snatch it back, but I dodged, turning and taking a closer look at the pills. Outside of the door, the sounds of the club were thumping. Guys laughed and sang as they washed their hands, while girls shouted, “Fierce!” and “Yass, queens!”, toilets flushing at a nonstop rate.

“Let me see it for a second.”

The pill itself had no signature other than the bright green color and the tiny print on the center, made to look like a dragon scale. It looked like a fucking SweeTart. Except this wasn’t a candy. This little pill had already taken ten lives, and the grim reaper was lined up for a magnitude more if someone didn’t put a stop to this.

“All right, you done acting like a narc? Holy shit… are you a narc? It’s not mine! I found it in my pocket! Someone must hav—”

I turned back to face him. The cramped space was growing humid. Sweat beaded across my forehead. “Relax, I’m not a narc.” I crossed my arms, keeping the bag of Dragon away from Axel’s reach. “I
’m trying to set up a distribution channel.” I slipped into my cover story as if it were a second skin. “I want to make this shit explode. I need to know who’s selling it first, though, before I figure out how to franchise it.”

Axel shifted on his feet. He was trying to judge my story, I could tell. “How do I know you’re saying the truth.”

“You’ve got to trust me here. You trusted me enough to put my dick in your mouth, so…”

“Good point. Good point.” His shoulders lost the tension in them. “All right, well, I guess I can help a local business, huh? My dealer won’t mind that. Here, this is his screen name. You have to download Slap, the chat app.”

Axel showed me the screen name: Dank69.

“Wow,” I deadpanned, “he’s a creative one, huh?”

“He’s got great stuff, dude. Dragon, weed, coke. Whatever you want, he has it. He’s a nice guy for the most part, too. I’m sure he’ll help you with this drug expansion thing you’re doing. Just, uh, just meet him in public. He can be a little bit of a loose cannon sometimes.”

My brow arched like the London Bridge. “What’s that mean?” I needed to know as much as possible about this Dank69 character before I met him. Preparation was key to a good investigation, and the last thing I wanted was to trigger some kind of angry reaction from this guy which would then close off one of the biggest leads I’d gotten yet. And in this case, time was crucial. My story may have been fake, but I had no doubt there were real plans underway on getting this drug out to the masses. It reminded me of the Krokodil drug that started to take hold in Russia, even with its face-eating side effects.

I needed to stop Dragon before it spread past Club Trinity, before it took any more lives.

“He can get passionate, that’s all. Like I said, he’s not a bad guy. Now can I have my drugs back?”

“Yeah, sure.” I tossed the bag clear past Axel, the pills dropping into the disgusting toilet water behind him with a satisfying splash.

“What the fuck!” I knew what would come next, so I was ready for it. The fist came flying through the air, and I caught it in one hand. Axel’s eyes widened in surprise (and most likely a little bit of pain) as I twisted his arm, maneuvering us in the small space so that he was up against the wall, both arms restrained now, with my leg locking his in place.

“That drug has killed more than ten people in the last two weeks since it’s shown up. People describe feeling their insides melting and their skin sloughing off from heat. Do you really want that? If you do, you can dig through that infestation of a toilet yourself and hope those pills still work after they’ve been soaked in radioactive piss.”

I let him go. He seemed much more calm about things now, but I wasn’t about to stay around for another chat. I unlatched the door and stepped out into the busy and dimly lit bathroom, no one any the wiser as to what had gone down in the stall, everyone too busy in their own drunken worlds to care.

The club itself was one of my favorites. I didn’t go out often, but when I did, I enjoyed what Club Trinity had to offer. It was a multitiered dance club with a different vibe on every floor, with an outdoor area that tied another section of the club together with the rest of the five totally different spots you could go and hang out. Each one played different music and had their own bars. A couple of the rooms had droolworthy men writhing on top of slightly raised stages, multicolored lights bouncing off their ripped and toned bodies, all of them wearing colorful sneakers, skimpy briefs, and absolutely nothing else.

  It was a good time.

I made my way through two of the rooms, walking past plenty of guys making out and a couple possibly doing much more. The rooms were dark, with separate ambiances in each. One I walked through was set with dark red lights and leather furnishings, along with a few crystal chandeliers spinning like disco balls, their bulbs swapped out to match the red hue. I kept my eyes peeled as I walked, scanning the dense crowds, making sure I didn’t spot any more of those clear plastic baggies with their little green pills.

When I made it outside to the front of the club, I first took a big gulp of fresh air and then I pulled out my phone. I downloaded the app Axel had told me about and sent a message to the one contact I was interested in: “Got Dragon?”

“Who’s this?” a message shot back.

“A friend. I want to buy some Dragon from you.”

Dots appeared on the screen and then disappeared. He was typing something. I waited, leaning back on a lamppost. Nearby, a couple of girls were trying to get into the club, but one was clearly drunk out of her mind, and the bouncer was not having it. The friends were trying to convince him she was fine, but the way her eyes crossed and the fact that two of the friends had to hold her up wasn’t exactly helping their case.

The clincher was her throwing up the copious amounts of alcohol she had just consumed all over the bouncer’s shoes, the sound comparable to that of Niagara Falls.

I winced and took a step away, not wanting to get hit by any shrapnel.

“This Saturday. I’ll text you a meetup location fifteen minutes before.”

My fingers flew across the screen. “I need to meet tonight.”

  “Saturday.”

All right, I’d take it. This was the closest I was getting to anyone who sold Dragon at Club Trinity. I had to make sure I didn’t scare Mr. Dank69 away. Through him, I’d be able to figure out who was the supplier and chase this Dragon bullshit all the way up to the top.

“Fine,” I texted back, and that was it. I had to wait a couple of more days, but at least I had a lead.

With the way tonight had gone, I was ready to strip down, climb into bed, and knock the fuck out. I had come to the club a couple of hours before opening and had stayed well past midnight. The stall fiasco had also taken it out of me, in more ways than one.

I pulled up my ride-sharing app and was about to order a car when the sudden sounds of a commotion drew my attention. It was coming from around the corner. Sounded like two men shouting, one on the verge of tears.

I hurried around the corner and instantly saw the source of the struggle.

In the darkened side street, right next to the booming nightclub, was a steroid-infested beach head looming over two young gay guys, shouting and spitting, his fists balled up and ready to fly.

Before he could punch one of the guys, I grabbed the walking advertisement for roid-rage by the shoulder and spun him around.

“What the fuck is going on?” His anger was redirected at me. It felt like I opened a furnace and was blasted with heat.

“Yeah, good question, what is going on?” I was looking around the douchebag, asking the two frightened guys. They looked like they were barely out of high school, their backs against the brick wall, eyes wide with fear.

“He… we were just kissing. That was it.”

“Do that shit in private, fuckheads.”

That was dangerously close to another F-word that would have had my fist cracking into this guy’s jaw. “You’re standing outside of a gay club, what the fuck did you expect? For us to be playing Jenga and doing taxes? Fuck off with that homophobic bullshit.” I positioned myself so I stood in front of the two boys. With the way this imbecile’s face was morphing red, I figured it would be smart to stand between them.

“And who are you? The fairy police?”

Another word teetering closer to knockout territory. This guy was already vile, and he was pushing me. I wasn’t normally an angry guy, and confrontation wasn’t my first instinct, even with my time spent in the military.

But when a motherfucker tried me, I made sure to try back.

“Get the fuck out of here.”

“Nah, I think I’m going to stand right here. And then I’m going to follow those two queers over there when they decide to leave. Maybe they need a lesson on public decency.” He looked over my shoulder, eyes beady and cheeks red. His blond hair was thinning around the front, making him seem like he had taped straw on his forehead before leaving hi
s house. “How’s that sound? Huh, fa—”

My fist cut up through the air, catching the man on his lower jaw. There was a loud crack. His head snapped back and he stumbled. Heat from the impact still coated my knuckles, covering the pain that would come later. His eyes were wide, and he tried to talk but couldn’t get any words out around his coughs and wheezes for air.

He didn’t need words to fight back, though. He lunged. An untapped anger flowed through me. No way was this fucking dickhead going to gay bash these poor kids, right outside of a space that was supposed to be safe for our community. I wouldn’t allow it. He was going to learn that sticks and stones may not always break bones, but being a close-minded shithead certainly would.

He reared his massive arm back for a punch, but I read the move before he was even thinking it. I ducked, the punch swinging over my head and missing completely. His size was intimidating, but it was also an advantage I could press. I pushed forward. My shoulder rammed into the man’s belly, knocking all of the air out of him and sending us falling to the ground.

There was a short struggle. I heard people shouting, no doubt calling for the bouncer to come and intervene. I had to focus on the man, who was still much bigger than I was. His fighting skills were shit, but he could do some major damage if he managed to get the upper hand.

I was able to pin him down, moving so that I sat on top of him with my entire weight, knee down into his chest. That was when I felt someone grab my shirt from behind and pull me back.
